Vampires can't wave their hand and everything works out just so.
Thralls make somewhere to stay. Money for whatever purchase fits their whim and people to jump when they say "Boo".
It's more of a long, sigh that comes when they have to explain something...or maybe that's just mine.
This is not that day. I have no aspirations of pouring my heart out. Those people only get themselves killed. I am not interested in dying like that. My death will come at the end of a sword in the heat of battle.
My name is Nathaniel. I am a thrall.

Novel: Atomic Angels ▼
Plot Synopsis ▼
13-year-old twin sisters Oxana and Tracey think child web modelling can solve their problems, until it brings trouble and deadly peril from people who cloak themselves in virtue, even as child saviours. Set in Ukraine and the U.S.A. in 2004.
Oxana is pitted against corrupt authorities who are too entrenched in the protection of their own interests to protect children from extreme poverty and homelessness; Tracey encounters the persecution of people for looking at her pictures on the Internet while the pervasive sexual exploitation of youth by giant corporations and the mass media goes by default.
This novel does not represent child web modelling as an unblemished virtue or as unmitigated evil. Falling somewhere between the two is a consequence of exploring reality honestly, and a red rag to censorious conservatives and feminists who find the realities of youth sexuality and sexual attraction threatening.
Such an exploration must address this very bigotry and prejudice which lies behind the banning and burning of my book before the ink is dry, and even at the early-draft stage.
It must raise questions about the hysteria and hypocrisy and persecution of scapegoats which lets the real culprits of child cruelty off the hook and harms real children in the name of child protection. Scapegoats are defined by their disproportionate punishment, not their absolute innocence.
I don't write erotica. Erotica is fantasy: sexing up sex and relieving the reader of the deeper values and moral dilemmas in play. My story offers no such comfort.
I dislike swearing and go out of my way to avoid it; however, not all of my characters display delicate sensibilities. There is some crude language of the kind that is commonly found in urban-contemporary young-adult fiction.
The pass key for this work is 2805
