A bet with a writer, a pen, and a napkin.
A writer entered a pub and sat at the bar. As he ordered a drink, the man next to him asked what he did for a living. The writer replied honestly. Soon another man made a bet that the writer couldn't write a good story in less than ten words. Other patrons of the bar joined the betting pool. The writer smiled and, taking a pen from his pocket, asked the bartender for a napkin. On the napkin, he wrote a story. The napkin was quickly passed around the pub, and afterward many of the men gave the writer the money they had pooled. It happened that there was a man in the bar that night who couldn't read. As the excitement of the writer's success died, he approached the writer and asked what the story said. The writer replied.

"For sale: Baby shoes, never worn."
