She has been practicing being a mommy all week. |
When you have a fur baby who develops a Phantom pregnancy. You sub real babies for stuffed babies. When my niece realized what Fable was going through after I had told her somethings that she was doing. I asked her if she was sure that Fable had never had a litter before. I told her that I thought she had been nesting behind the couch and her breasts were heavy and looked like they were full. They hadn't done that during the last cycle she had, I said. Jess asked if I had let her out alone at any time during her last cycle. I said no that was 5 months ago. She then explained that animals go through Phantom pregnancies just like humans. Wait, what do you mean, she thinks she is pregnant? Yep, Aunt T get ready she will have labor along with the whole nine yards. I said, the whole stage from getting pregnant to false labor. Yep! About a week later Fable was whining and yelling just as if she was in full-blown labor, running around in circles and jumping up on the couch, Braxton hicks contractions and everything in between. I thought at first she needed to go outside. Nope, she wanted Momma to give her warm compresses like she'd gotten all week. I have never helped a pet deliver babies before. But, luckily I had Braxton hicks before and knew what to do, kinda. I gave her stomach massages {gently ones in circles}, and heat compresses with a large rag. Mind you her stomach had even expanded to pregnancy size of her having at least 8 to 10 puppies. I babied her just as if I was the expected grandmother. I felt so bad for her but was so excited to be able to witness her miracle. Although she was not truly pregnant it was something to go through with her. I had even purchased her some babies to help her with the process. After several hours of intense labor, she had delivered her babies. I have pictures of her in labor and her reactions were priceless. The look in this picture was finally Mom it's over and you can put that camera down now! Now, that was an experience I will never forget. |
