A surreal selfie collage... |
This is a digital collage art piece I made, inspired by the Imagine Dragons song Higher Ground, from their 2022 "second half" album Mercury Act 2. It uses a line from the song and imagery taken from the lyrics. I used the top of my own head for it, from a selfie I'd taken months previously. I made it entirely on my Galaxy, using an app called Photo Studio. The art style is largely inspired by the artwork of Tim Cantor, who painted all the cover art for ID's 2015 album Smoke + Mirrors. The music of that album, combined with the art, taught me a lot about surrealism and embracing the darker corners of one's mind. I feel that Dan's phrase is emblematic of the activity inside my own head; I've always had an overactive imagination, and the wormholes it takes me down can be quite strange, even alarming. Such is the mind of an author. I used this as the cover image for "My WdC Story" rather than an AI pic, because it's me, after all, and it perfectly encapsulates the reason why I write. I'll conclude with the larger context of the song I incorporated: I've got these memories
Stuck in my head and they won't leave Filling up my treetops with these crows I wish that they would go... Ghosts follow me around these days Haunting my head and house My mind is crazy loud But I won't give in to it Take it all in stride... |
