Chapter #3
The Pirate Ship Approaches
by: TigerLily
The pirate ship was approaching fast. Catalina was afraid, but also felt a wild kind of excitement. What would happen next?
The captain bellowed, "All hands on deck!" He noticed Catalina and said, "This is not a time for ladies to be taking a stroll on deck. You need to be in your quarters. I don't need a fainting woman on my hands."
Catalina indignantly placed her hands on her hips, her eyes blazing as she snapped a reply, "I am NOT a fainting woman. I'll thank you not to judge a person's character just by glancing at them."
The captain viewed Catalina with less contempt, but not quite the respect she was demanding. "Spitfire, aren't ya. Well, it'll do you no good with those pirates. They favor the spirited ones - more fun in a challenge."
Catalina pretended to be shocked as the captain moved down the deck towards his crewman. But secretly, she felt a little thrill at the thought of fighting off a deadly pirate and winning.
The captain turned back around. "If you stay, you'll have to help with the rigging - I can't have a useless body flapping about the deck.
Catalina's temper flared. "Show me what I need to do." Her anger giving her strength, she stormed over to a grab a rope from a surprised sailor and worked with the men to get another sail up.
The captain chuckled. "That's a woman like I've never seen."
