A wild parasol dances along alone with the cool morning breeze, a multi-hued parachute to a person your size. You let it pass by peacefully as you walk to the awaiting adventure in the Land of the Rising Sun. Sometimes the freelance secret agent business affords you the opportunity to get out and see the world, though such pleasant sights are rarely seen between gunplay and intrigue as this glorious sun dawning over the horizon of seemingly endless Tokyo road. You take temporary shelter beneath a dew-sparkling bush and breath in its sweet scent as the golden orb rises.
Lights in surrounding buildings click on, windowshades roll open, the thousand eyes of each living structure gradually come alive with lamplight. Illumination growing brighter, you notice the colorful signs holding tight along the heights of shops down this infinite path. Time passes slowly, soothingly. Some early risers exit home and ride or stride here and there but never dangerously near you. It all seems so clean and organized, you almost forget you are, in unreal actuality, sitting beneath the damp leaves of an immensely large plant.
A familiar beep sounds from your wrist, but you react with your knowledge this time to something very different. The once black face of the watch has morphed into the face of a grinning, wild-haired man. "Sharinku!" You exclaim, much to his satisfaction.
"That is correct, Jack Sterling!" the flat image responds with a cackle. "It is I, the Great Sharinku! The master of molecular manipulation and soon to be ruler of this little world!" He laughs again, placing a black top-hat upon his head and spinning around in frenzy. "You have fallen right into my trap! How perfect this is! Hahaha-hehe!"
The dignity and honor and promise of this day seems to decline with each word Sharinku speaks. You respond sharply, "What kind of nonsense is this Sharinku!? What are you planning in that skewed mind of yours?" You're unsure if he can see your confidently focused face, but he sure enough hears your defiant words.
Sharinku giggles quietly but quickly silences himself. "It's not that easy, Jack! In your foolishness, you have proven the point! Given me the result! I will succeed!" He roars right back into his savage laughter then becomes strikingly serious, his whole persona shifting to the somber, "But as for you, you can live or you can die. You have played your part."
"I have played my part!?" you yell, almost biting down on the watch, its proximity to your mouth nearer than your lips. "What do you mean, Sharinku, you madman!?" Sharinku lowers his head, remaining solemn. "I have sent a female associate of mine to bring you back here. I would like very much for you to be a part of my collection." You are stunned and confused beyond words only to be startled as Sharinku springs back to life, "But if you'd prefer, Jack, you can take your chances out there!" He points off screen to a road he can't possibly see, but still your eyes follow his to it. "It is life or death, Jack!"
The screen again goes black, leaving you once again in peace as people steadily grow more plentiful all around you. "It's life or death, Jack," you repeat, "life or death. We shall see about that! We shall see."
