Chapter #5

turn of events

    by: FamousWriter Author IconMail Icon
"Alright," Daisy says very slowly and very deliberately as she places you on the nearby nightstand. "Now you'll do exactly what I tell you. Understood?"

Surprised, you look up into her huge face and instead of it smiling in that stupid idiotic way, it's very menacing.

Eyes narrowed, she grins wickedly. "If you really want to live past the next hour, you'd better obey me."

"I thought Harold was to be my employer."

"Ha! That bumbling fool. He thinks all women are mindless idiots. If one's smart enough to play stupid, one survives. If not, well...?"

"But wasn't he the one who shrunk me?"

"Take one guess who had to hold his hand as he 'invented' it. And then swallow her pride as he gloats over it like a pig to his 'business associates'. As long as I stroke his over-sized ego, I'll be fine."

"So..."

"So, are you going to obey my every command or shall I just feed you to the pet cat now?"

You shake your head in vain hopes of clearing it. Not only from the shrink ray after effects but also by the sudden turn of events.

A minute passes and you conclude you've been forced to jump from the frying pan into the fire. However, given the circumstances, you have little choice.

You throw up your hands in mock surrender. "All right, I agree to work for you. At least, I won't be working for my arch nemesis, Harry. Who knows, you might be better."

She gives a thin smile. "Well, will wonders ever cease? You're the first man to actually use his brain. Even if it is literally the size of a pea."

"What do you mean? How many others have there been?"

"Too many to count. Do you really think you're safe if you co-operate?" She threw back her head and laughed.

You cringe and look around. There is a tiny mouse hole at the far end of the room. You reason that you could jump onto the bed, slide down the bedsheets to the floor, and make a run for it. The only problem is getting past Harry's white cat. It's been watching you with unnerving fascination ever since it slipped in with you and Daisy.

"Well?!" Daisy demanded.

You realize with horror that you failed to hear her first 'request'. Not exactly the best way to start off.

"Sorry. Didn't hear you."

Her eyes narrowed with suspicion. "You better do better."

You only nod.

"I said to get into my glass aquarium."

You look with horror as she points to a glass aquarium filled with weird insects. There is also a huge padlock on the secured lid. "What for," you ask her.

"That's a silly question. You're my pet. All pets belong in aquariums."

"I'll be eaten."

"Not if you keep ahead of them. Besides, as long as I feed them, they'll just be curious about you. Trust me."

"I thought I was going to be your partner."

"Partner? I never said that, you foolish boy. All I said is that if you obey my every command, you'll live."

You have the following choices:

1. Make a run for the mouse hole.

*Noteb*
2. Go into the aquarium and wait for a better opportunity to escape.

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
