Aaron thought as fast as he could as the blonde girl whimpered in pain, clutching her belly, which was visibly distended even through her clothes.
"P-please... hurry! Do something! I'm- Ow... I'm s-scared..." The poor girl whimpered, plucking at Aaron's heartstrings.
"Y-yeah, I'm working on it!"
'Come on, think, Aaron! Think!'
Damn, the side effect of his device- one that he'd thought would never be an issue- was about to be responsible for the poor girl's gruesome death! Unless he did something in the next couple of minutes to avert that fate. Colette probably didn't have longer than 10 minutes before she, well, exploded. And Aaron had half that time at most before Colette suffered any permanent or critical damage as a result of his friend's regrowth inside of her stomach.
Colette's stomach was protruding further out now, the poor girl fighting back tears as she moaned in pain. This wasn't a scenario she'd ever imagined she'd be in... but right now she desperately wished this was all just a horrible nightmare. A bad dream that she could wake up from and put behind her! Unfortunately, this was reality, and the terrified girl knew that she was living out her last few minutes... unless this mysterious stranger could save her!
Aaron appeared to be fiddling with something in his hands... and with a huge, blinding flash of light, he suddenly shrunk down to his regular size! Colette squeaked in shock, startled enough that she was able to forget the pain- if only for a minute.
"M-mister?"
"H-hold on! I think I can save you! Just... try and hang in there for another minute. Two minutes, tops!"
"I'll... oof... I'll try! But please hurry... my stomach... feels so tight... I'm scared..."
"No, you're being very brave. Just stay calm and you'll get through this!" Aaron did his best to comfort the frightened girl, not taking his eyes off of the device he'd been fiddling with.
It was his shrink ray.
Well, not exactly- it wasn't the one John had been affected by. This was an older model. Most people wouldn't see a point in keeping stuff like this around when the new and improved hardware was available, but something in the back of Aaron's mind had convinced him that having a 'backup' around might come in handy.
And boy, how right he was.
Now, if only he could figure out how to use it.
'Do I grow Colette? That might work... no! If I shoot her with the ray, there's too high a chance that John just grows with her, making the whole thing pointless! What if I shrink her? No, no. That won't work either. Same reason- John would still proportionately be growing inside of her!'
"A-agh... P-please... I'm... so full... My tummy... is bursting at the seams..."
Crap! He'd been dawdling too long! Colette didn't have long left, and if he didn't do something in the next sixty seconds, she was a goner! He refused to let that happen! He didn't know if the size-altering powers of the raygun would work in this context, but this particular prototype had some extra functions that the new one didn't. Ideas he'd had that he hadn't ever gotten around to implementing with the newer version.
Turning back to look at the blonde teen, Aaron winced. Colette was looking seriously huge now- her belly had ballooned up to the size of a full-term, nine-month pregnancy... maybe even a bit bigger. No, definitely bigger. Before his eyes, Colette continued to swell, her size now that of a woman who was a few months overdue! Her white and blue clothes had been forced so far out by her hugely distended belly, it looked like they were on the verge of tearing apart!
'Crap! Gotta act now! Come on, please work!' Aaron thought to himself, aiming the ray at Colette.
"H-hurry... I can't... take anymore... Hurts... so much..." Colette wheezed tears leaking from her eyes as she collapsed on the ground, cradling her immense middle.
ZAP
The bright beam of energy shot out from Aaron's old, worn-down prototype ray, striking dead center of Colette's enormous belly!
1) Colette's body grows bigger while John stays the same size
2) The ray function Aaron used was the experimental 'durability-enhancer' setting. Here's hoping it lives up to it's name.
3) The ray beam cancels out John's growth just in time! Colette's in pain but out of danger.
