In Juraheim, gryphons are a fairly common breed, with a few variations in breeds, such as the hardy mountain breeds, the forest gryphons and of course a few specially bred breeds, raised by the royal family, some of which eggs went "missing" over the years, some of the rare black or white gryphons living in the wild.
The gryphons of the forest are the most common, about the size of a riding horse, their feathers and fur a dark brown colour, some times with lighter stripes. About five foot to five foot six inches tall at the shoulders
Mountain gryphons are larger and stronger than their forest cousins, often seen flying higher for longer periods of time, but are more agressive and harder to train, though a well trained one makes a fine war steed. About five foot nine inches to six feet four inches tall at the shoulders. Their fur and feathers are golden, and are the same breed that Princess Sandra's gryphon is.
Both white and black royal gryphons are rare , with less than fivety of each breed free in the wilds. The white gryphons are smaller and calmer, as small as four feet tall at the shoulder, bred for show. The black gryphons however are larger and more dominant than even the wildest mountain gryphons, as tall as seven feet at the shoulders.
