Chapter #5
Katie
by: Unknown
KATIE DIDN'T ENTER THE threshold.
Christy stood for five minutes, posed to shoot the shrinking gun, one eye squeezed shut as Katie's voice drifted through the doorway again.
“Mommy?” Christy scowled and lowered the gun to her hip, her finger still wrapped around the device's trigger. “Come in here, squirt. Mom's with me,” Christy called, her plan already forming in her adolescent mind as a blacksocked foot came into view.
Katie's face appeared as well as her small black–clad body. She wore a black Derek Souza (from the Darkest Powers trilogy) t–shirt the was extremely tight, black skinny jeans and black and red skull Converse sneakers. Around her neck was a purple pendant that reminded Christy of the necklace from the Darkest Powers book covers.
Christy rose a thin eyebrow, her rose lips pursed, her incredibly brown eyes twinkling as she spoke in a soft, calm voice. “What's up with the whole Dark side look, Katie?”
The eleven-year-–old shrugged her small shoulders and pushed her strawberry blonde hair from her ivory face. Christy growled and drummed her free hand against her thigh, scrutinizing her little sister with piercing eyes. “Fine!” she snarled angrily, tapping the muzzle of the gun against her hip.
Katie's eyes widened and she guffawed at the gun. Slowly, Katie began to back up, her eyes glittering with fear and Christy snorted quietly. Katie's eyes snapped up from the gun to her big sister's tan face.
