It was a gray, rainy day as Stephanie maneuvered her parent's car through the fog and the puddles. She was on her way to work, and it was always at times like these that Stephanie thought of her paycheck and wondered if it was worth it. It was worth it, of course, or at least it would be. Stephanie had never really worried about how she was going to pay for college, but after some serious shake ups in her families finances, it was pretty clear that she'd have to pay her own way. This waitress job was the highest paying job she could find in this horrible economy, and even with all the overtime she worked (while still making time for school) it was apparent that she'd just barely be able to scrape together enough cash to pay for her first semester, and that was only if she kept up her current, nearly phenomenal work rate. So yeah, it was worth it, she decided. Then she hit a pot hole and frantically wondered if she'd have to pay to have the tire fixed, imagining what the cost would do to her "no room for error" financial plans. When the tire didn't deflate, she breathed a sigh of relief and kept on driving, asking herself the same question again and again.
As she pulled into the parking lot of the restaurant where she worked, she thought of the monotony of past work days and promised herself that today was going to be different. Little did she know just how different it would be.
