There are many planets in the known universe that are largely normal by human standards. Take the planet Heifong. It's normal for humans, because it reminds them so much of Earth. Heifong is so much like Earth that it's called "Earth's third sister", the seond sister of Earth being Venus.
However, there are planets in the known universe that are highly unusual. The planet Micron is one of these planets. Micron is located in the Kei Pirate space, but it's a netural planet. The Ban Pirates don't usually travel to Mircon because it's in Kei Pirate terriority. But all this is beside the point.
The planet of Micron is home to the smallest species of the universe (save for microscopic life). Micron is a planet about the same size as Heifong, but the humans on this planet are no more than 20 inches tall. This is because a plant that thrives on the planet send out these special spore that makes a person shrink. However, the people of Micron don't keep shrinking...they just stop shrinking when they're 20 inches tall. Newcomers to Micron might get slighly smaller than the inhabitants (say, about 10 inches).
Micron has 2 kind of spaceports. One spaceport is for normal-sized ships and the other kind is for shrunken ships. The largest of these shrunken ships is about 20 feet wide.
The Outlaw Star is in orbit of Micron because the crew was on another job for Fred Luo. Fred wanted Gene and the others to deliver a package to a friend of his on Micron. The package was a shipment of firearms specially made for people that were 20 inches tall. These firearms are perfectly safe for normal-sized people, but are deadly for 20 inch tall people. Fred was willing to forget the debt that Gene owned him if Gene did this little job for him...so, of course, Gene jumped at the chance. Besides, it was a job that brought them to a planet they never been too before.
