Ken replied, "Well, the weather is the weather - but rain never lasts long here - and I just know that you will be terrific. I'll show you around the trails, if you like. I know these woods well, I've been here at Willix for 25 years. Besides, I need an excuse to get out of the office."
Matt looked Ken up and down, taking in the big gut, the padded face, and the general layer of fat, and decided that it would either be a quick tour or a slow one - Ken looked like the kind of fat guy who gets out of breath just standing up! But, this was the new boss, best to humour him. "Sure! That'd be great!" Matt replied, quickly opening the top of his backpack. "Here they are," he continued, pulling out a set of broken-in Vasque hikers. "Ready to go," he added a moment later, and the two of them headed out the door, Ken suddenly with hiking poles in his hands.
