Chapter #3

As the sun rises...

    by: venus417
A hazy silhouette shot through the mists that emanated from the Zora River and filled Gerudo Valley in the early morning before the sun rose. A cloaked rider on his horse sped on toward the gate that led to the Gerudo's impressive fortress. The guard at the gate rubbed the last bits of sleep from her eyes and watched as the silhouette gracefully jumped over the gate.
"Newcomer always loves to show off, doesn't he?"

Link steadily held back on the reins on Epona as he neared his destination. Nabooru stepped outside to greet him. He adeptly jumped off his horse and unlatched a bulging bag from his steed.
Nabooru took the bag from him with some difficulty and opened it. Fresh corn, quite a few bottles of milk, and many apples were just a few of the things inside. "Good work, kid. Thanks to you and your exploits, the Gerudo won't have a hard time starving this winter. In fact, I've never seen so much food. I don't even know where we're going to put it all. And apples, too! Only royalty can afford them! You must be stealing from the castle itself to get all this! How did you get past the security?"
"Please, don't give me too much credit. The Hylian harvest is completely phenomenal this year. They've been very careless with all the excess, and I don't just mean with security. In fact, the man was selling the fruit for only fifteen rupees, and he wasn't even watching them closely."
Nabooru shrugged her shoulders and walked inside. "Whatever."

Link sighed as he plopped down on his futon in his room. He had been living with the Gerudo for five years now, ever since he returned from Termina. Since Ganondorf was gone from this time line, Hyrule was now peaceful, idyllic, perfect... and boring. An occasional monster from Hyrule Field appeared, but... Link found the silence unnerving. The sage incident had forced him to grow up quickly and get used to seeing blood, always being on his toes, never facing your back to people without watching in the corner of his eye. You can't stop being that paranoid in any short amount of time. So, the only outlet that Link could find before the calm drove him insane was... thieving. Of course, Link still had his Hero of Time mantra; he only stole for the thrill of it and reimbursed all his victims fully. But...
Link sighed as he looked himself in the mirror. His golden blonde hair reached midway down his back, only adorned by a black headband to keep his bangs out of his eyes. His forest green (of course) cloak was held up with a golden clasp with the triforce symbol scarcely marked. Because of the different lifestyle, his body frame had changed significantly, to look more like a thief. His shoulders weren't nearly as broad, and there weren't any overpowering muscles; he was very thin, and probably one or two inches shorter. He didn't wear any shirts or vests underneath, but his cloak was more than long enough to cover his torso. Anyway, he was currently fixated on his stomach, which was protruding out about an inch more than normal 'Nabooru was really pushing me to eat. I'd better be more careful around the kitchen from now on.'

A gentle breeze blew in from his glassless window. He stopped to stare outside at the vast desert...

You have the following choices:

1. An ominous cloud appears on the horizon...

2. Footsteps echo from the hallway...
