Chapter #3

Uh- oh, Official Pest Control

    by: Deathworks Author IconMail Icon
You are behind the counter so you just might as well try to contact the bartender. You know him, and while you wouldn't trust him to park your car, he seemed to be a decent guy - in a way at least. Besides, he is the only one around who might see you, so let's give it a try.
Fortunately, you have a clear view of his face so that you know where he is looking. You run into his field of vision, waving your arms wildly, and jumping up and down. He can't possibly miss you, but his face keeps that stoic professional look. It is a subtle sound and the wind that warn you as the cloth he is cleaning the table with is approaching you. As you start running, you realize that he is indeed seeing you, his eyes following your every move. Somehow, you can't bring yourself to believe that he is only trying to pick you up with that cloth.
You are no match for his determined moves, of course, but by making a daring jump to the right in the very last second, you escape the cloth. As it rushes past you, you have a moment of respite as the bartender hasn't noticed your final maneuver. But then the cloth is back and the chase is on. This time you spot some kind of plastic bag or something off to your right and make a jump for it. The cloth misses you by only a few inches (your point of view), and the bartender shouldn't be able to see you inside the bag.
After catching your breath, you finally look around in the dim light inside the bag. All around you there are large, rough boulders piled up against the back wall of your residence. Dust and smaller pebbles have fallen off the rocks, and tasting one of the pebbles you identify this as a bag of peanuts.
Before you have time to think of a new course of action, the bag is lifted. Fearing for your life, you cling onto one of the peanuts and hope for the best. Everything turns around and around. You are falling, rising, falling, hell knows how many turns until things settle down again.
Looking around you notice that this place is only dimly lit. It seems as if you were inside a pile of these gigantic peanuts, probably on one of the small plates on the bar's counter. You were incredibly lucky not to be crushed by them.
The question is, where will you go now? Will you climb up onto the top of the pile in order to get a better view, or will you try to simply exit the pile and check out the guests at the bar? What will it be?
