A Midnight Stroll

Being just 1/2 inch high in the middle of the night is not funny. You need to get to a really safe place. And the only thing that could be trusted to be safe would be the dorm at the university. So you have to go there. If you stay here, you are bound to get killed by some bug or something.
         You turn right and begin following the street. It is rough going as one ridge and outcropping is followed by the other. You have been at this for quite a while, but haven't really made much progress. Trying to reach the university at that speed is utterly hopeless. You need a ride.
         A ride! That's it! You had completely forgotten about the bus! There is a bus going to the university even at this hour. If you can just make it to the bus stop and hop onto it, most of your problems would be solved. The bus stop was somewhere nearby, so you start running, envigorated by new hope.
         There it is, in the distance, and there are two students waiting for the next bus. If you can just reach them in time, you can use them to ... Even while you are thinking about it, you hear a rumbling sound and the earth shakes. A gigantic mass passes you, as the bus approaches the bus stop. Unless the students both pay their fare in pennies, there is no way you can make it to the entrance in time.
         The bus stops and the students are going in. You are still at the back of the bus. But you could try to jump onto the bumper. You weren't going to pay for the ride anyway and the bumper has enough stuff clinging to it that you should be able to hang on, so why not do it that way? On the other hand, it is still risky, and you could break your neck falling off the bus. So what will you do?
