Ena thought that gambling in order to see who ended up with Kendall sounded like a great idea, so she laid down the rules:
1. The gambling event would take place at the marketplace during the busiest time.
2. The same kind of game would be played a dozen times.
3. If you lost a game, you had to remove a piece of clothing.
4. After the game had been played a dozen times, the winner got to keep all of the clothing that had been removed--along with Kendall.
5. The one who had lost the most games (and, naturally, the most clothing) had to remain sitting on a bench in the marketplace for another hour--which might even result in that person being arrested and put into a stockade to be pelted with eggs, fruit, and vegetables that had definitely seen better times.
The truth was that Ena really didn't want to let go of Kendall, so she was trying to discourage Gale from gambling for him.
However, Gale obviously wanted possession of the cute, little man pretty badly, so she wasn't discouraged.
Ena tried once more to make it rough on her, by saying that the game that would be played was _______(choice of games shown in options for the next chapter), which was something that Gale really wasn't all that good at.
Still, Gale was ready to take the risk, so Ena decided to let her--believing that she would probably be the winner anyway and would find it amusing to see Gale coping with being nearly naked out in public.
