While Johnny was driving home, Kevin decided to check in with him again. He concentrated and began to see the world through Johnny's eyes: sitting in the backseat of his mother's car, playing a video game.
"Johnny, can you hear me?" Kevin asked.
Johnny looked up, and after a second, realized who the voice was. "Kevin, is that you?"
"Hmm?" his mom called from the front seat. "What was that, honey?"
Kevin realized that he'd have to try to communicate with the boy silently, so his mom wouldn't hear. He focused and tried to communicate through thinking.
"Johnny, let's just communicate through thoughts. We don't want your mom to get suspicious or upset that you're talking to thin air!"
"Okay," Johnny thought back. "Is this right?"
"Yep," Kevin said. "Good job. Now we can talk whenever we want, and nobody else will know!"
"Cool!" said Johnny, "you're like Jimminy Cricket! Except you have magic powers!"
Kevin chuckled. "Yeah, I guess you could say that. How are you liking your new height?"
"It's pretty cool," Johnny replied. "I just hope I get to do it again! It felt so good to grow, and I like being taller than all my friends. But the adults still look down at me."
Kevin smiled, "I think I can do something about that. How about this? I can either cause you to grow a little every day, so that you'll always have a new experience of being taller, or I can grow you a lot right now, or you can wait till later, till when you need it, to grow. What sounds best?"
Johnny thought for a moment. "I think I'll choose..."
