"Yes," the secretary said glancing down at what appeared to be a roster of names. "You've been assigned to Lab 301. Which is Obesity Research." Conrad felt his brow furrow a little at where he'd been placed, he'd had no idea that the Dept. of Experimental BioChem did any research into obesity. He shrugged and took the ID badge that the secretary was handing to him. "There's a microchip in the back, swipe it in the slot on the door to enter. Report directly to Dr. Adipo when you arrive at the lab, he's been short on lab assistants for a while."
Conrad hesitated a moment longer, but then the secretary made a dismissive gester with her hand and he headed in the way she indicated. The building was a sprawling place, he hoped he'd be able to make sense of it quickly or he was sure he'd wind up getting lost here a lot. After a few minutes he came to a wide door with the promised card-swiper beside it. Conrad swiped his new ID badge in the slot and there was a loud click, and the red light over the slot turned green. When Conrad went through the door he found himself in a huge laboratory. There were vials of liquid everywhere, and dozens of cages with lab rats in them. All of the rats were positively immense; the biggest looked like it weighed about 15lbs, it was so fat it was basically a furry white blob with tiny ears and red eyes. Beside the cage containing this whale of a rat was a display, which presumably showed the rat's health indicators. Conrad, while no medical expert, was surprised to see that all of them were in the green. Not a single stat seemed to be near a "Danger Zone".
Just then a voice spoke behind him. "Stunning isn't it?" Conrad nearly jumped out of his skin and whirled around to see a hefty older gent, well maybe hefty doesn't quite cover it, he seemed to be pushing 390lbs.
"Y-yes," Conrad said once he'd regained control of his breathing. "How is it that the rat is still so healthy...it's huge!" He positively exclaimed.
"Well, this is the obesity research lab isn't it? I'm Dr. Adipo, by the way." He said holding out a pudgy hand. "And, as for how Dante, that's the rat's name, is so healthy for being a little over 17 times his so-called 'Adult Healthy Weight'...
