The dull-eyed cows watch you. Their attention focused more on the coyote you've chased away. Despite the rather significant drawback of becoming abundantly female, you feel drawn towards the cows.
They're not just dull, they're positively calm. Spotting one of them has a huge nylon collar, you realise you could join them. Become a part of their herd. Twelve hours as a cow, seems a fairly tame introduction to animal transformations.
They approach, unfazed by your humanity. The opportunity for hands to scratch itches they can't themselves is clear. A couple of them are swinging their tails and swatting flies. Two more using a fence post to relieve a tickle they can't reach any other way.
She doesn't object, or seem to notice as you free her neck from the collar.
It's a dirty, woven nylon thing. Functional and strong, you run it through your fingers.
They start as you leap the fence into the field. But their fear only drives them into a wider semi-circle around you. Several feet stand between you.
