Of course, you left it open that night (before you turned into a penguin, obviously) to let the heat out. You can hear the sounds of the city outside, a bustling metropolis hugging the water of the icy Thames below.
If you jump, you might be able to reach the river, which will break your fall
If you jump, you might also not get far enough, hitting the street with an odd sound, suprising the pedestrians below on their way to work.
You have one chance
After a few attempts at jumping on your new legs off of your bed you go for it...
You jump. Flapping your flippers involuntarily as you pick up speed.
You, a nineteen-year-old british university student who also happens to be an emperor penguin, are flying.
After five tense seconds, you reach the cold river breaking its surface gracefully.
You have done it!
Even in July you expect the water's temperature to somewhat chill you at first but it just doesn't; it's rather like you haven't gone underwater at all. It feels about the same temperature as the air.
After a fraction of a second of confusion why, you remember:
'Oh yeah: *I'm a penguin*'
The bubbles clear and you look around.
You are about ten or so metres below the surface, holding your breath instinctively and easily, like you can do it for another twenty or so minutes. Other than that, you cab see little, even with your new eyes, only just making out the bed, another ten metres below you.
You'd've had breakfast by about now...
