Chapter #4

Supplies, Books, And Titans

    by: ninja7 Author IconMail Icon

The benefits of being one out of the few, free, traveling humans. I see a lot of untouched supplies. I peer at a bunch of unopened packs of water bottles, but it seemed suspicious, I could feel it. Food and water untouched. It's very unusual for anything to be untouched. I pull out a knife and yell "hello?". It was silent. I cut a pack open and take a few bottles, stuffing them into my bag. I look around cautiously, and see nothing within my line of sight. I stand straight back up and walk toward some canned foods. Just like the water, I grabbed whatever I could, stuff them in my bag, and look cautiously around. I then bolt out the door, covering my eye from the blinding light of day. My vision returns to normal, and nothing. "Maybe I was just paranoid." I said to myself. I walk around in the middle of the town, and spot a small bookstore. I walk in like it's heaven. When I was a kid, and wandering around with my parents. They would let me go to abandon bookstores and let me read. It was the only thing I could enjoy. There were many problems though. We would never stay long, and I couldn't keep a single book. My Dad said it was not valuable for survival. That's when I made my one rule, Finish every book I pick up before I leave! Back to reality, I see several great books. I pick out one on medical knowledge and human anatomy, the history on some Vietnam war, and several others. I jump up on to the cashier counter, and begin reading, losing all sense of time and my surroundings.
As soon as I finish my sixth book, I feel a slight tremor. I look outside, and realize it's night. I put the book down, and run to a dusty, broken window. I see something in the distance. I walk to the door, and out only to see a small group anthros. It was dark and hard to make them out. Then I see one split from the group, and walk my way. Feeling the tremors, I run back into the store, grab my stuff and try to find a hiding spot. The tremors became earthquakes, knocking books and shelves down to the ground. Then a shelf falls on me, it just pins me, barely leaving a bruise on my body, and luckily hiding me. Then the quakes stop. I lie still on my stomach, wondering what it wanted, especially from a human ghost town. Then I heard it speak. "HMM, LETS SEE WHAT I CAN FIND HERE?" Then I hear something brake. "HEY THAT LOOKS LIKE A LOT OF FOOD AND WATER!" My thoughts were "What! That would barely feed him or any of them!" Then I hear sniffing." SOMEONE WAS HERE!" My heart races, and sweat runs down my face. Then more sniffing. "THEY'RE STILL HERE!" My newest thought. "Why are they blessed with superhuman smell and hearing?" Then rumbling above me, allowing me to guess, It took the roof off. It flips the bookshelf off of me, I jump up, and try to bolt straight out of the building. Then a furred tower blocks my exit and plucks me out through the roof.
