It's All Coming Back

    by: Unknown
You wake up panting and holding your head. You look around and then let out a sigh. "Good," you say. "Everything seems normal. I can recognize my room at least." You had recently been sick with a strange illness that had the symptoms of a flu but also caused temporary memory loss and your head was still sore. You walked up and looked in your mirror right before you heard a voice calling you.

"You up yet, kiddo?" asked the voice. You recognized that voice and remembered who it was. "I'm perfectly fine, Aunt Claire." You remembered that your parents were killed in an accident years ago and you were raised by your father's younger sister. Claire was for the most part easy to get along with, but there was something about her that you could swear was important to know, yet for now you couldn't remember it. "Are you absolutely sure you're okay?" asked Claire. "The doctor did say that it would take a while before your memory completely returns and I would hate for you to get an unpleasant surprise if you can't remember what I look like."

You let out a sigh. "Aunt Claire, please. I'm not a baby." "Do you actually remember what I look like?" "Well, I remember that you're a redhead." Claire lets out a laugh. "Oh. You are just asking for trouble. Come on. Breakfast is ready." You smile and you remembered that Claire always woke up hours before you did. You presume that it was for work reasons but you couldn't remember at the moment what she did for a living. Or did she get up early to make sure you were prepared for school? You shrug your shoulders and walk into the next room for breakfast. There was a plate with toast, bacon and eggs on it and you walk up and take a bite out of the toast. "Thanks, Aunt Claire."

Suddenly, you realize something. There was only one plate at the table and Aunt Claire's breakfast was nowhere to be seen. "Say, Claire. Aren't you going to be sitting at the table?" Claire gives a scoff from offscreen. "Are you kidding me? They don't make seats big enough for me to sit at the table. They don't even make tables big enough for me." You were confused with what your aunt said but then you remembered that Claire was somewhat fat. Not that it bothered her. As you're eating breakfast, you heard loud vibrations and the apartment begins to shake. You have to grab your glass of milk to keep it from spilling.

"What is that?" you ask. "An Earthquake." "No," said Claire. "Just my footsteps." You're confused. "Claire," you say. "There's no way that you're that heavy." "Kiddo, I'm probably the heaviest woman on the planet. Just turn around. But I'll warn you, if your memory hasn't returned, you'll be surprised." You turn around and gasp as you see an enormous eye looking in the window. The pupil alone is as big as the wall." You walk closer to the blue eye and you hear your aunt laughing again. "Is it coming back to you now?"

That's when you recalled something very important about Aunt Claire. She was a 40 mile high hippopotamus. If she were human size, she'd weigh a few thousand pounds. She had cream-colored-skin and long red hair with huge H-cup breasts, a large belly and an even bigger butt. Right now she was bending over to look into the apartment where she kept you and had her huge butt casting a shadow over an entire landscape as she smiled at you. "Remember me?" she asks tauntingly.

You let out a nervous laugh. "Okay, Aunt Claire. I may not remember everything." Claire lets out a laugh and shows off her large and sharp building sized teeth. You remember that everyone in town knew that Aunt Claire was a giant hippopotamus but don't know how it could be possible that she'd be related to you, yet didn't question it. For the most part, she was really nice. Though you did remember that one time a bully was causing you trouble and she trapped him in her mouth for a week to get him to leave you alone.

At that moment, Claire let out a sigh. "Well," she said. "It will all come back to you." Claire held her finger out to your veranda, obviously gesturing you to climb upon her huge and pink fingernail. You shrug your shoulder and climb the nail. From your vantage point, you remember that the city your apartment was in was kept in a bauble that was part of your aunt's necklace and your aunt was up to her knees in the ocean. "One of these days," you think to yourself. "I'm going to ask her how she got so big. Or why she's a hippo in the first place."
