Chapter #5

A Pharaoh and a Funeral

    by: Hereward Author IconMail Icon
"Lord Pharaoh," A voice addresses you, "You must rise." You open your eyes to see a figure standing over you. You get up and get a good look at the man who addressed you; he is wearing some colourful but loose clothing and looks like a religious official. As you stand you're suprised to find servants coming to dress you.

"I do not remember any of this." You inform the priest, seeking for an explanation.

"My Lord Pharaoh," He comments with surprise and alarm, "What force has drained your memory? You are the Pharaoh of the Kingdom of Tipyeg, I am the Head Priest of the jackal God Sibuna and your mother has died." You look shocked at this news. "We must prepare for her funeral." You take this in and decide to go along with whatever's happening.

You follow the priest through what must be your palace, various people bow as you pass and you raise your hand acceptingly to each one. You go down some stairs until you find yourself in what is either a basement or a cellar. Upon a stone slab you see the still body of your mother, dressed in jewellry and robes. On the wall you see pictograms showing anthropomorpic animal figures, each one holding something in one of their paws. One of them you suspect to be Sibuna, a jackal with its paw held up to its muzzle but you cannot quite see what is in its paw.

As you stand over your deceased mother the priest mutters something incomprehensible and two lesser priests reverently throw some plant material over the corpse; you look to see this material as being chopped parsley and jasmine and then the priest you first met takes a handful of yellow powder from a container and sprinkles it over your mother from head to toe, a whiff of this powder tells you that it's saffron.
