A purple snake... no, an Ekans lunges out of the grass and thumps their serpentine body just inches from where you stand! A long, forked tongue shoots out of their mouth, fully capable of slurping you up with one quick flick!

The super-sized serpent doesn't seem to notice you, instead choosing to coil itself up and watch for easy prey, probably. That's the best explanation you have as to why it just stays still besides the occasional tongue flick.
