"Not hungry, Tess?", you ask. She gave you a strange look. After all, you weren't eating any more than she was. "Uh...no. Not right now.", she answered after a moment. "Maybe later, then." you say, and go back to staring at your plate. Tess had never been a very good liar, so you knew why she wasn't eating. Janie had gone from super skinny to chubby in a matter of weeks despite not seeming to eat much, (At the time she preferred to binge in privacy, but now she had no problem showing the other girls her appetite.) and Tess didn't want the same thing to happen to her. She had no problem with fat people, as evidenced by her longtime friendship with Gale, but she didn't want to be one her self. Hopefully, you could change that.
Janie suddenly piped up "Hey Gale, tell everybody about the new song you wrote." This was convenient. Gale was the kind of person who drew the attention of everyone in the room when she spoke, and her involved description would provide perfect cover. As the other three girls chatted about the new song, you concentrated on changing Tess's eating habits. "You're hungry, Tess. Probably hungrier than you've ever been. And you're going to have to get used to feeling this hungry." you mutter under your breath while staring at Tess, who was too busy staring at Gale to notice.
"You say something, Nic?" Gale says, stopping her explanation in mid sentence. Surprised, you quickly try to come up with an answer: "I said "The solo sounds tough, but I can get used to playing it." "I know you can!" she responds cheerily, and pats you on the shoulder with a heavily padded hand.
You look over at Tess, pleased to see that you're already getting results. You catch her devouring the remaining three fourths of her pizza slice, her mouth and chin stained with tomato sauce, and a hungry look in her eye.
