One look around and you know you must be in the future. You’re in some kind of large city with a dome. A man holding some kind of device is standing just a few feet from you looking at you with a startled look on his face. He then looks at your belt and says, “Ah, you’re time agents”. He then comes up and shakes you hands. “Anything I can do to help”, he says with a smile.
Thinking quickly you say, “Yes there is. We’re having a problem with our spatial displacement temporal locater. Where and when are we”, you ask making up a lot using stuff you’ve seen in science fiction show. “Oh, well that’s easy you’re in New Chicago and it’s the year 2113”, he answers. “What’s with the dome”, you ask out of curiosity? His expression changes slightly and he says, “It’s to keep out the glaciers. All the northern cities have had them for years”.
“Glaciers, how can you have glaciers? What about global warming”, Denise blurts out? Now he really does get a concerned look on his face. “I don’t know anything about global warming. When are you two from? You do know that time travel is prohibited and can only be done by time agents and selected scientists,” he says, backing away. You quickly respond by saying, “My partner is new and still gets disoriented in the time jumps. I can’t tell you when we are from exactly except by saying the future. We’re having a global warming problem there and we’re trying to trace back to when it started.
The man relaxes some and says, “No warming here friend. We’ve been in an Ice Age for the past 80 years. I do remember now something about global warming in the beginning of the 21st century, but that turned out to be BS. It seems that the earth warms up slightly right before an ice age. It was a normal cycle, but the scientists of the time misinterpreted it, and blamed it on man-made emissions. They passed a lot of regulations and restrictions on the burning of fossil fuels. It destabilized the world economy and caused a fuel shortage. When the cold hit, more than half the world population died as a result. You guys probably know all this though”.
Shocked by this, but managing to keep a cool face you thank the man and he goes on his way. Denise on the other hand is more emotional. “I don’t think I want to know anymore about the future”, she says.
