Phoenix and Maya walked down the street. Phoenix looked over his notes. “One of the witnesses was a hot dog vendor that was working on a corner a few blocks away from the supermarket.”
“Mmm, hot dogs. Can we get some hot dogs, Nick?”
“Hot dogs! You want hot dogs after the carnage you left back there! It will take a sheer amount of dumb luck for me to buy you hotdogs today!” And with that, Phoenix collided with an inflatable Steel Samurai.
“Hey Nick, it’s a Samurai Dog cart! And look at who’s selling them…”
“Larry!” Phoenix gasped. “You’re selling hot dogs again?”
“Shut up Nick!” Larry Butz frowned at him. “I told you my name was Laurice Deauxnim!”
“So wait, you sell hot dogs and you paint?”
“Well, painting pictures and selling hot dogs have been the only things I’m good at, and they aren’t to rewarding alone, so I’ve been doing them together. Although I haven’t been able to sell any with all the police presence here.”
“So you know about the crime, then? Did you see anything at the supermarket?”
“No. I just went there to get some more ketchup and mustard. I didn’t see anything on my way out, but as I was walking away this really geeky looking guy ran past me in a panic. Say Nick, want a picture? I could paint you a portrait as you pose with a half eaten Samurai Dog, wiping mustard off your face.”
“No thanks, Larry.”
“Ah come on, Nick,” Maya said. “Give the guy a break. He hasn’t been able to sell these juicy hotdogs all day. Could I have a Samurai Dog, Larry?”
“Sure, Maya, have as many as you want. I couldn’t even sell these now even if everyone was as rich as Edgeworth.”
Sheer dumb luck, Phoenix thought. Me and my big mouth.
Maya pulled out two hot dogs from Larry’s cart and added mustard and ketchup to them. She half listened to Phoenix and Larry as they talked about the case and chewed the fat, but she was more focused on eating…
