Chapter #3

Home nearly alone

    by: chaos Author IconMail Icon
The bus stops near your house and you get off. You’ve decided to go home and face your parents and sisters because they need to know about your pending death most of all. You can just imagine your parents crying over the news, trying to reassure you that everything will be alright, when you know it certainly won’t be. The reaction of your parents is obvious, but how your two younger sisters will respond is complete mystery to you. There’s a good chance they’ll be upset by your death, but they might also be a little happy. Your relationship with your siblings isn’t the greatest.

Emily, your fourteen-year-old sister is a nerd who wears big glasses and has braces. Since you were little girls, you’ve made your younger sister miserable, picking on her and calling her so many cruel names. The nickname ‘railroad mouth’ had once sent her running to her room in tears. You didn’t feel bad about it then, but now that your times up, you’re rethinking your actions. Ashley is your eight-year-old sister and while Emily is a nerd, the younger girl is something much less accepted by society, a tomboy. Recognizable by her short hair and unvarying overalls, you’ve drilled into her eight year old mind that she is ugly and not to associate with you at any time. Your popular imagine would be ruined if anyone saw you with the dirty tomboy you call a sister. You were most likely crueler to Emily because she went to school with you and people saw you with her then you were with Ashley, but not by much. Both girls thought of you as a total bitch and who could blame them, you were a bitch.

You stop dead in front of your house, it seems so huge now that you’re a few inches shorter, you wonder how big it will look after you lose a foot. Pushing those dark destructive thoughts out of your mind, you open the front door and call out to your parents. “Mom, dad, I’m home!” Your voice echoes through the huge house, but no response other then that comes. It’s the middle of the day, usually at least one of them is home. You start looking around, checking the living room and dinning room before spotting a note posted to the fridge. You tear it off and read it out loud. “Gone to visit nana, be back tomorrow. Be nice to your sisters while we…”

You don’t read out the rest, instead you rip the letter up and scream loudly in frustration. It’s not fair that you won’t get to be with your parents before you’re too small to see at all. You wanted to spend these last moments with them, hear daddy call you his ‘little angel’ and get treated like the queen you are. Making amends with your bratty sisters was only a small part of your final wishes, you also wanted to get the full attention of your parents and bask in their admiration before you die. But that’s not going to happen because some old bat probably couldn’t get a lid off a jar of pickles and called both your parents away in your time of need. In frustration, you pick up a glass container off the kitchen counter and throw it against the wall. It shatters into a million pieces, just as you fall to your knees. You’re not feeling so good all of a sudden, kind of dizzy and queasy.

“What was that noise?” A small female voice asks from the other side of the room. Slowly, you look, finding your vision becoming burry and it being impossible to identify who’s there. You blink to readjust your eyes, seeing the person that has interrupted your break down.
