Chapter #3

Dinner Date

    by: brains2 Author IconMail Icon
Being fat made sense to Jake. For as long as he could remember his father was always pushing him to eat more. As an adolescent, Jake's metabolism burned like a furnace just like every other normal kid and the second, third, and fourth helpings of macaroni and cheese were fine.
"You just keep eating. You're young and you need to eat as much as possible," his father used to tell him.
The initial thing that really ingrained itself into Jake's eating habits was the way that his father made it seem funny to eat a lot. During the summer family gatherings, all the adults would sit at the big table and all the children would sit at a smaller table for dinner. Towards the end of the meal, Jake's dad would come over to the kids table and start inquiring about the meal by stabbing his finger into someone's plate.
"You gonna eat that?"
We would laugh as he flicked peas, made hilarious faces, and ate anything that we wouldn't eat. Amidst the laughter, Jake developed a stimulus to keep eating. Friends and other bystanders who witnessed Jake's meals were blown away by how much food he could put down. This kind of attention also influenced Jake's eating habits. He became the guy that could eat 50 chicken wings, drink a gallon of milk, or eat a pack of Oreo cookies in one minute.
Jake's father wasn't a fat man so he never considered the possibility that he himself would some day way over 500 pounds. Nor could he possible imagine that food would no longer quench his hunger.
During the summer following high school, Jake managed to get a date with a co-worker. She was a cashier and he was a paint salesman at the Home Depot in town. After several weeks of flirting, Jake finally got her number and asked her out. The evening of the date started out awkwardly when Jake went to pick her up. She was still living with her folks and after Jake met them and got their approval, he and Lilly waddled over to his car were she immediately stopped in her tracks.
"Jake, I can't fit in that."
Jake stopped, looked at her, looked at his car, and said, "Oh wow, I didn't even think about that." Jake paused momentarily looking for the words to take the load off her insecurity. "You know, I've actually been thinking about trading this damn thing in for something bigger. I can hardly fit in it myself."
Lilly smiles and says, "It's no big deal. I can take dad's truck and I'll just meet you there. Is that okay?"
"Works for me."
Once both arrived at Bubba's Steak House, the growling and wrenching in Jake's stomach was almost unbearable. The hostess seated Jake and Lilly in the back of the room where they had to combine three tables to properly accommodate the two gigantic guests. When the waiter came to the table they both ordered immediately.
"I'll have five New York t-bone steaks, a large bowl of mash potatoes, a large bowl of macaroni and cheese, and a tall ice tea"
"And for you sir?"
"Wow, that sounds really good Lilly. I think I'll have the same."
The waitress did really good not to laugh or make a comment on the order Jake thought. He wondered if she realized that their order alone consisted of half a cow-maybe more.
The food arrived and they inhaled shamelessly. Jake tried to enjoy his meal, but something was nagging his conscience. In between bites of steak and trivial conversation, he found himself glancing at Lilly's fleshy arms and wondering what they might taste like. But every time that thought crept into his head, he ignored it by shoveling food into his mouth.
After sharing a mountain of ice cream, the waitress gives Jake the bill and thanks them for stopping by. Jake knew the dinner would be pricey so when he saw the $130 total, gratuity included, he didn't flinch. Inspecting the bill just to make sure everything was added properly, he was confused as to why he was still so hungry.
Outside the air was warm and the darkened night sky provided refuge from the heat earlier in the day. Jake and Lilly walked over to her truck that was parked next to a wooded area and receiving no illumination from the tree shrouded light pole. He thought the night had gone really well so far and wondered if she was thinking the same.
"I had a really great time tonight Lilly. I'm glad you decided to come out with me."
"I had a great time too. I think you're a really sweet guy Jake."
Jake smiled and looked down at the ground. He knew the low lighting was able to hide his blushing, but something was wrong. He was still hungry. Ravenous. She was leaning forward to kiss him on the cheek when Jake bit into her arm.
"JAKE! Stop it! What are you doing!"
Jake relinquished his bit hold with a bloody smile. Lilly looked at him with a confused and slightly terrified look on her face. When Jake bit into her neck and ripped her throat out she instantly collapsed into a spewing bloody mess. Oblivious to any witnesses, Jake begins feasting on Lilly right next to her dad's truck. After several minutes of tearing and chewing, he drags her newly disfigured body-twitching and bleeding-into the woods.
