The faint red taint to the child's otherwise pure skin labled him as a demon. That and the thin claws that were becoming ever more apparent on his little fingers. His eyes, however, were completely human - brilliant blue copies of Bowhan's own. The face that seemed to have been chizzled out of cold granite seemed to soften on the spot, its harsh edges seemed to melt away until the child looked almost human.
"No" muttered Bowhan, "Never human!".
The face morphed back, the claws lengthened and the brilliant blue eyes darkeded visibly. Bowhan fought just to keep hold of the vile creature in the blankets, not just because of its repulsive looks but also because its weight must have trebbled!
"What are you!" he asked for the second time this evening.
