The kind monk

    by: Dragonlord Author IconMail Icon
Bowhan sat the child on the ground and drew his sword. Bowhan raised the sword high and just before he could bring the blade down on the child someone spoke behind him.

"What the hells are you doing!?!" someone behind Bowhan demanded.

Bowhan turned and saw what looked like a monk with long blond hair and eyes that seemed to piecre one's soul. Bowhan was almost mesmerized by those eyes, but he shook it off knowing he had to kill the sea serpent child.

"I am going to kill the monster that is wrapped in those blankets before it has a chance to harm anyone," Bowhan said about to turn back to the blankets when the man spoke again.

"You mean that sea serpent crawling up you leg?"

Bowhan looked down and saw that the child seemed wholly serpent now and had climbed its way up to Bowhan's chest. Bowhan thought it was going to try and eat him despite him being its father until it got up to his face and nuzzled him.

"Aw," the monk said, "I think it likes you. It is after all giving you a hug after all."

"Get off of me you monster," Bowhan shouted unraveling the serpent from around him and tossing it away.

The serpent seemed confused but slithered back towards Bowhan anyways trying to hug its father. Bowhan raised his sword high and brought it down towards the serpent and was stopped by the man's hand grabbing the hilt.

"Are you mad man!?!" the monk demanded, "This creature means you no harm and your trying to kill it!?!"

"Get off of me!" Bowhan said shaking the monk off his shoulder and swinging the blade again.

The serpent was protected from the sword when a large shadow leaped out over it and blocked the sword. The shadow then twisted and knocked the sword out of Bowhan's hands and scooped up the serpent. The shadows carried the serpent over to the monk and deposited it gentally into his waiting arms.

"What kind of demon are you!?!" Bowhan demanded grabbing his sword again.

"I am no demon," the monk said gentally petting the serpent getting pleased squeaks from it, "But my shadow is. It was tied to me before I was born, perhaps to taint my soul, but it hasn't done that yet."

"Then I shall slay you and rid the world of your shadow!" Bowhan shouted lifting his sword high and charging.

Bowhan was hit hard as a shadow formed itself into a fist that knocked him flying. The monk hadn't even been looking at Bowhan when this had happened, he had been tickling the serpent and kissing it.

"I wouldn't try that again," the monk said looking up from the serpent coiled around his arm, "While I would welcome the freedom from the demon that my death would bring, the demon will not allow it and will possibly attack you again. Do not try to harm me or my new daughter again or I will allow my shadow to kill you.
