The Search

The next village was a day's walk to the east, and Bowhan spent the time silently, and sometimes not-so-silently, cursing himself for the mistake he had made the previous night. How could he have done such a thing? It was monstrous...

He reached the village just as the sun sank beneath the trees, and entered the nearest tavern. Scanning the custom quickly, Bowhan's heart nearly skipped a beat as he caught sight of a woman in the corner. Could it be? He walked quickly toward her, holding the child close to him. She turned as he approached, smiled...and then he blinked.

She was gone.

Bowhan stopped dead, staring at the spot on the wall where her head had been. His mouth hung open slightly. That demon...

He was not going to keep this monster. It must go...
