He let's it fend for itself.

Bowhan couldn't bear to kill his own child but knew that he could never raise it himself. So he decided to find a safe place for the child to fend for itself. He took the child to a cave a few miles from the village and left the child all alone.
Bowhan knew that troll babies were fierce predators already and they grew fast so he had no fears for the child.
As he left he heard the child's stomach growling so he left some meat for it by the exit and left.
