The tone Bowhan heard was that of a toddler, no more than five years of age.
"Papa!"
It came to him like a knife through his chest, depriving him of air. He knelt on the edge of the edge of the cliff and cried his heart out. Nothing made sense anymore. Somewhere, the demon woman who had put this curse upon him was laughing, gloating, and relishing in his defeat.
Bowhan "the great" was no more.
The faint form of the serpent disappeared beneath the waves. His young mind couldn't understand why his father had done something as horrifying. What had he done that left his parent with leaving him to almost certain death? Like his father, nothing made sense to him.
After being nearly skewered by sharp rocks on the shallow ocean floor, the serpent had surfaced to look for his father. Every call of help was silenced by the roar of the waves. He scouted the coast for as long as he could, but Bowhan had left, not to be seen for a long time.
Then it was the serpents turn to cry, he slithered up onto the sandy beach and it was clear now that he was as long as three average stallions. The afternoon sun revealed a dim coat of blue scales and white fins. For a moment he considered to search for his father inland, but immediately reconsidered when a pack of wolves emerged from the forest edge.
He instantly turned back to the safety of the water and the predators decided to engage the stolen horse Bowhan had left on the cliff instead.
The serpent watched the impending doom of the steed, the wolves gathered around it and forced it up the cliff. At that moment, he witnessed one of nature's harsh lessons: Kill or be killed. He dove beneath the surface and swam away as fast as he could. Streaks of water from his eyes merged with the blue-green ocean.
He swam until the sun began to set and the sky turned red. Having no knowledge of the land he came from or the sea that was now to be his home, he wandered aimlessly.
At nightfall, he came across an eerie formation of rocks offshore. He sought shelter within them and found several fish carcasses. As he ate them, he pondered over his situation until he eventually fell asleep.
