Vengeful Foster Mother

He approached the lighthouse and looked down at the baby. Despite his knowledge of the Child's heritage and his abhorrence of the very monster this child was, he could not bring himself past it's eyes. They looked up at him, piercing straight into his heart.
This monster, this child, depended on him and despite how much he hated it it was still his son. As he stared into the baby's face it almost seemed more and more human. "no." he said to himself, shutting his eyes.
He lay the baby at the side of the lighthouse and walked away. Firmly resolved he'd absolved himself of all responsibilities the eyes of the child had put him in.
From the water rose the peering eyes of a mischievous merperson. She'd watched the monster slayer as he looked on adoringly at the child and how he had left it there at the lighthouse. She smiled. Perhaps she could use this child to her own advantage. Bowhan had already slain so many of her own kind, it would be a kind of . . . revenge.
The idea echoed in her thoughts as she pondered it. Decidedly, she looked about, to make sure no one was near, and drug herself up to the lighthouse. Taking the child under her arm she looked at, the child of a monster. Slayer of her kin. She was taken aback when she recognized the scaly tail of her own kind. She didn't have any more time to ponder this abnormality though. A voice sounded from inside the house . . .
