Rachel Pickens was the realtor that handled Fred's purchase of the ranch. So long as she didn't give him away, he'd be just an ordinary caretaker without two dimes to rub together instead of a wealthy ranch owner.
Fred settled into ranch life and enjoyed the new lifestyle. He told the foreman that he talked to the owner each week for direction and he accepted Fred's authority. There really wasn't much to manage. Fred settled into a comfortable routine. He'd get up, do a few calisthenics and shower before driving into town for a hearty breakfast. He'd do a few errands and then return to the ranch for a nap before riding inspection on the herds. By this time Fred had worked up a raging appetite so he drove back into town for dinner.
