Laura knew how uptight Dave could be. If she told him about the flower he would almost certainly think she was crazy. However, if she said that she had breast implants he'd probably have a mini-freakout and start questioning her. So instead, she came up with the best story she could on the spot.
"I think I just hit a growth spurt or something. I mean, I woke up this morning and I just noticed that they'd gotten a lot bigger! Seriously! Really, I'm just as surprised about this as you!"
Laura knew it was a pretty weak story, and sure enough Dave didn't sound too convinced. "A growth spurt? Aren't those the kinds of things that affect your entire body, not just one part? Doesn't it usually take longer than one day to happen? And I've never known them to have that big of an effect!"
Laura just shrugged her shoulders weakly. Dave knew she was hiding something, and he wasn't quite sure whether he wanted to press her on it or not. She probably wanted him to drop the subject, but he felt as though, as her boyfriend, he had a right to know what had happened to her.
