Starglint shook his head. Now was the time to assume his position as the new Badger Lord, and if his predecessor had fallen, he had better make haste towards his new home to defend it. The heavy boar began his westward sprint through Mossflower woods, passing by river and meadow and village without pause, a critter with a mission.
A week had passed, and Starglint stood at the edge of the beachfront. The full moon filled the night sky with its light and the boar crouched behind several tall stones. Torchlight dotted the beach, and from his vantage point he could see the front entrance of Salamandastron, but there was the issue of the vermin army between himself and his birthright.
Starglint continued to creep towards the beach, moving from stone to stone until there was nothing but sand between himself everyone else. The vermin weren't sending guard patrols except around the volcano, focusing their attention on the inside. Considering the Long Patrol were never known for getting re-enforcements, the battle tactic was sound, however Starglint smiled, feeling quite the spanner to be plunged into their gears. The Badger Lord gripped the hilt of his bastard sword, feeling the rough texture bite into his calloused hand. He had to be careful, he was heavily outnumbered, and they had killed one badger already.
Starglint figured he had three options. The vermin probably are resting after a day of siege, so he could rush into their barracks and take out several of their warriors now, catch them with their breeches 'round their ankles, as it were. He'd have to be quick, and would have to know when to retreat before he got overwhelmed, but it would catch them by surprise. He looked over at Salamandastron's front door, figuring he could possibly sneak into the fortress, that way he could rest, arm and armour himself, and bring on the wrath of the Long Patrol by his side.
Scanning the enemy camp, he saw a large tent, a yurt, with plenty of guards at the front. A wicked smile ran across Starglint's face. He could make his way there and dispatch their boss. A quick tactic there could turn the tides, or at least cause the enemy to disband and make for the hills. He liked that idea muchly, but it did have its risks.
