Amy ... Amy Hashimoto ... I didn't remember much about her. I didn't even know who she was... who was she? Ugh. No one does. I'm like, on the outside of the regular world. I'm a shadow creeping down the path that you barely notice until ... bam! You feel a bump in your head the next morning. Ha Ha. But I don't have time for introductions and stuff, I have to check out this house! It's creepy. And not just that regular odd feeling of creepy, this has a definite menacing feeling to it. Look! I think I saw something move inside!
"Well, it could be owned, you know." That's my older brother, John. John's a real drip when it comes to investigating. The only reason I bring him along is ... uh ... because he has a functioning camera. Yeah. Otherwise I could probably do this myself. I mean, he doesn't believe in anything, and he's such a coward. But company's company. A brother's a brother.
"Owned? No way that place is owned. I mean, who owns it the Adams Family? The Munsters? Give me a break John, that place has murder mystery written all over it."
"Amy, this isn't a book you know. You're not a junior sleuth!" John tried to diminish and extinguish my efforts, as he always did, but this time I would not be rattled. I had finally seen something truly odd in our little town ... and I had to get to the bottom of what was going on! I had definitely seen something move inside - something big, and probably hairy. I shuttered at the thought. I looked over at John, who was shaking in his boots.
"Come on John! Let's go in and investigate!" I ran ahead while John stayed there probably whimpering. I heard him yell something after me,
"Don't do it, Amy! It's dangerous!" I laughed in the face of danger! Ha Ha! I ran up to the heavy metal fence, and hid behind some particularly itchy bushes. I crouched down, pulled out my digital camera and looked into the highest window in the house. It was open, no curtain or anything, a perfect chance for catching something. I could hear John coughing behind me and said to him, without taking my eyes away from the window,
"Shh! Be quiet, John! And sit down! I don't want you to scare them away!"
"But Amy..." He began to whine again, but something was happening,
"Shhh! There it is!" I caught a glimpse of a small stout shadow roaring across the upstairs planks and snapped a few photos. Then it was gone. This was so exciting, nothing like this had ever happened before in the little town of Red Grove! I was so giddy I could almost hug John, but I didn't. I ran up to the gate, and began wondering how I could go in. The most obvious way would be to climb. But the spikes at the top looked frighteningly real. I didn't really want to risk my life. Maybe, I could ...
"forget this, I'm telling mom!" John whined as he ran away. What a chicken! How could he ... darn! I'd be grounded again! But I couldn't let this thing get away ... but how would I get in?
