Chapter #3

3 days later

After coming back from a game in South Carolina, i got home at 2:30 am on Saturday. I was insanely tired so I didn’t even change from my team gear, and laid down on top of my comforter. After the quickest 5 and a half hour night of rest, my deafening alarm sounded off. I opened my eyes I find myself shrouded in darkness.
“I don’t remember taking off my clothes… or even having the energy to get under the sheets. As I fought my way out from under my sheets, I fell from my bed what seemed like several feet and landed on my shag rug next to my bed.
“Oh my goodness. I don’t remember this fabric being so long... they definitely don’t feel this long on my feet.” I mustered enough energy to stand and then it hit me. As I looked up to see my nightstand instead of down, I thought that I was caught in a bad dream.
“This absolutely cannot be happening to me. I’m one of the worst people who could have shrank.... Olympic training begins in just a few weeks! And the season is hardly half way over! No this isn’t real...”
My alarm was still going off as I tried to pinch myself awake. I opened my eyes and the world around me was still double what I’m used to. In my state of shock I was able to bring myself to silence my alarm. I got on my tippy toes, set my phone back on the nightstand, and laid down on top of my clothes that was on top of my bed. A millions thoughts rushed through my head and after some time, my doorbell rang. I jumped down from my bed, and made my way to my bedroom door.
“Wait, Haley… you’re naked” I thought to myself. “And you don’t even have clothes that fits...” I tried to put my shirt on and not only was it hardly staying on just one of my shoulders, but it was dragging on the floor and hardly covering my body at all without me having to constantly re-adjust. I opened my door just a crack, and I saw Liz make her way to the front door. After about a minute, she closed the door and made her way back. As she was about to enter her room, she saw my door open.
“Hayls? Are you up?” She said making her to my room. In a panic, I ran to the bathroom and locked the door. “Hey, Haley, you ok?” She asked. I could tell she was in my room.
“Uh, yeah! I’m fine! I’m just using the bathroom…”
“Are you sure you’re ok? You sound... different.” She said, unsure if different was the correct word to use.
“Is my voice higher pitched now??” I thought. I reassured her I was ok with an “mmhmm” and she left my room. “Do I tell her?? I mean… she’s going to find out anyways... even if I can stay in my room for the weekend, I have to see her on Monday one way or another.” After a few minutes of debating, I figured it was best to tell her know. Maybe she can even help me out
“Hey, Liz?” I said knocking on her door across the living room. We live in a 4/4 but thankfully our two other non-volleyball roommates were out of town.
“What’s up?” She asked opening the door. I couldn’t help but notice how she naturally looked upwards to look at my face and when she couldn’t find me, slowly looked down and eventually saw me. When she saw me and let it all process, she let out a shriek. “HALEY WHAT THE FUCK?” She got down on her knees to be level with me, and to my dismay, she was still taller than me. At this moment, I felt incredibly small and helpless and I began to cry. It finally really sank in. Liz drew me in and I rested my head on her shoulder and I started sobbing.
“Hold on, Hayls. My knees are hurting being kneeled down so long on this hardwood.” She said as she hugged me tight and easily picked me up. I wrapped my legs around her sides like a little girl would around her mother. As Liz made her way to the couch, I was still crying, trying to come to terms with having to be literally half the woman I was. She laid down on the couch, propping her back against the arm rest and l sat on her lap, still hugging her. Everything about the situation I was in made me feel like a baby or very young girl being comforted by her mother. A few minutes passed by and my now giant friend Liz was still there with me.
“Hayley, listen sweetie I need to go buy you clothes. I think you should stay here because you don’t have anything that will fit. Do you think you’ll be good if I leave you?”
“Yeah… I think so…”
“Ok. Try and avoid the kitchen and other areas that are out of your reach now. I’ll be back soon! If anything, call me!” She sounded like a real mother here. Liz left, and I stayed on the couch. I was fighting back tears when someone knocked on the door. I just up, scared.
“Oh, what do I do now??” I thought, as I slowly made way for the door. “Shit! I can’t even reach the peep hole!” Luckily, the person on the other side of the door did something to identify themselves…
