Later at the library you run into Cliff and he ...

You and Cliff got on really well at first. Both High school jocks, pretty good with the books and anticipating getting fully into the college experience. Over the course of the first year, your paths had diverged. Cliff had become more focused on pre-med and committed to the track team. To get better focused he had moved out before Christmas and your paths hadn't crossed since. You, on the other hand, had embraced the college lifestyle fully. Pledged a frat, relaxed a bit about studying and somehow never found time for the gym. Your shrinking wardrobe never let you forget that you had put on some weight but between sweatpants and baggy shirts, you didn't think anyone noticed.
Then, one day you were somewhat desperate to keep up your C average and found yourself in the library studying. These days it was hard for you to concentrate for too long at a time so you wandered down to the basement for a soda and candy bar. And who should you run into but Cliff.
"Hey, buddy." Cliff called from the other side of the room, "Long time, no see."
"Hey Cliff." you answer. "How you doing?"
Cliff looks good, probably leaner than at the beginning of the semester- probably getting serious about cross country again. You, however find yourself trying to suck in your flabby gut. You notice Cliff's eyes scanning down your body.
He chuckles a bit. "Looks like the freshman 15 found you."
You smile back. At least he doesn't realize that you are way beyond 15. Gotta keep the grades going, Cliff. Don't have time for the gym."
"Good to see you." Cliff bounded up the stairs. "Take Care."
Soda and candy bar still in your hand you let your gut relax. "I guess I am getting fat." you think "But...
