Megan sets you down on a table, then sits in a chair next to you with a sigh.

“Look, hon. I... didn’t treat you right back in high school. I was mean and you didn’t deserve that. My therapist helped me realize that. I know this marriage isn’t what you want. It wasn’t my ideal either. But we’re both adults now and I’m hoping we can make this work in a way that’s good for both of us.”

You stand there, stunned. You didn’t expect this level of emotional openness from Megan, though it was certainly a welcome surprise.

“I’d like to make this work too, Megan.”

She smiles at you. “Thanks, hon.”
