Hinata slapped her hand into tree stump she practiced on once again, releasing a small burst of chakra into it as she practiced her Jūken technique. She still had a long way to go, even with her new technique mastered and she had to practice hard if she wanted to achieve anything.
“Hey Hinata.” Kiba’s voice rang out from behind her and she stopped, relieved she could rest her hands for a moment.
Turning she smiled at her teammate who rode on top of his pet and partner, Akamaru. “Yes Kiba?” She asked pleasantly.
Kiba dismounted and walked up to her earnestly, “You think you could watch Akamaru for a few minutes? I need to go get something from home…” He trailed off and Hinata blinked in surprise. Kiba rarely left Akamaru’s side, especially after Akamaru’s sudden growth spurt that had left him larger than anyone in the team, including their teacher Kurenai. Kiba looked away a frown appearing on his face, “Sorry Hinata, I’d ask Shino or Kurenai-sensei, but they’re busy training in the other end of the woods. And it’d take forever to guide him through the large streets in town. It’s just easier to leave him here for now and come back.” He looked down at Akamaru with slight embarrassment, hoping his dog wouldn’t take offense.
Hinata found her voice and shook her head in slight embarrassment, “No, no that’s ok Kiba-kun… I just didn’t expect it.”
Kiba looked back at her with a smile, “Thanks Hinata, I owe you one.” He turned away for a moment, but then turned back fishing a bag from his pocket. Akamaru perked up immediately, watching the bag intently. “Here, I brought these treats for him. If he gets hungry you can give him these. I’ll be back in a little while.”
Hinata nodded and watched him walk away. She really had been shocked that Kiba had left Akamaru with her. Perhaps it was because Akamaru was having trouble fitting in the streets after his massive growth spurt. He had grown so rapidly that nobody, not even Kiba’s family, was sure what they would do if he kept growing. Ironically, Hinata hadn’t grown an inch in almost a year, much to her displeasure.
Turning her attention to Akamaru, Hinata smiled, walking up to him and petting his snout, “Don’t worry Akamaru, Kiba will be right back. I’m sure he’s just going into town for a minute.”
