Chapter #77From Bitch to Witch by: rugal b. You stand in front of the large doors and knock. You wait a few seconds but there's nothing. You knock again but still, nothing. Annoyed you decide "fuck it" and open the doors yourself, stepping inside. "Knock knock! Anyone fucking home?!" you call out. You're met by the corpulent form of Aubrey Blackwell, waddling towards you as he emerges from the library.
"Young lady you've got about ten seconds to get out. Before I call the police and have you removed." he says in a rather irritated manner.
You smile, "I'm just looking for someone. Some old fat ass, he's a professor or some shit. You know anyone like that?"
He glowers, "I assume you're referring to me, are you not?" he asks.
"Could be, cooouuuuld beeeee." you say in a sing-song manner as you walk past him, "See because I've heard that under his face there's another face. Some pasty-ass dude." you state and then in an almost mocking British accent add, "A right British chap guvner, what what."
"Young lady I have no idea what you're on about but if you think you can just barge into my home and..." he trails off unable to find the words before adding, "Who are you anyway."
"Oh you want my naaaaame?" you say, again stretching the word out, "Because usually people want something else from me. But fine, my name's usually Will Prescott but for the time being it's Traci Small."
Blackwell eyes you for a moment. "I thought I said it had to be a middle school student." he states.
"And it is." you reply plopping down on the couch and pulling a sucker out of your backpack, "She just hit puberty a little earlier and a little harder." You then take the sucker, unwrap it and place it in your mouth. "Ugh, really wish I had a smoke instead of this fucking candy. You got any?"
"I'd think not." replies Blackwell with an air of disdain. "I can see that you've picked a good one though."
"Or a bad one." you smirk. "In fact, if you weren't such a disgusting fat piece of shit I'd show you just how bad." you add with a wink.
That seems to unnerve Blackwell a fair bit. "Yes, well, I see you've had no problem getting into character. Assuming that is her character."
"It's not like it's hard. Shit half the time I've used these things I've had to fight not to let the personality overtake me." you say before adding, "You all settled in with Fatwell?"
"As much as I've been able to get." he says in a rather resigned manner, "You say it's not hard but I have to concentrate to keep the thoughts and personality within reach."
"Within reach?" you ask, "Because with me it's like wrapping myself up in a blanket."
"Hmm, a natural talent it would seem." states Blackwell, "Quite interesting..." he trails off and looks to be in thought for a moment but then turns back to you. "Alright then, consider it to be your, well this girl's..."
"Traci." you state as you can tell he's struggling with the name.
"Right, Traci. Consider this her interview." he says while sitting down on an adjacent chair. "So first thing's first: you said she's a middle schooler. How old?"
"Turned fourteen last month." you state plainly.
"Right, right." he nods, "Alright then, tell me what she's like. Personality."
You think for a second, "A bitch. Rude, foul-mouthed, generally mean to a lot of people. Especially the popular girls. It's funny because you'd think they'd have the advantage but she pushes 'em around even though they still talk shit about her."
"So a problem child. Sounds exactly like who I was looking for." he replies, "Alright, so why?"
"I dunno, you wanted her." you reply flippantly.
"No, Tra--Will. I meant why is she like she is." he shoots back, the annoyance clear as day in his voice.
"While I'm like this just call me Traci." you state before taking a finger and tapping your chin, "Why's she like this? Let's see... overcompensation, I think."
"Overcompensation?" asks Blackwell, "For what."
You go looking through her mind, it's like an open book. "She used to be a nerd and the kind of nerd that was quiet and meek. Easily pushed around. She started getting sick of it. She came across Bruce Mumaw and some others getting high, they asked her if she wanted to join them as a joke. She took it seriously though and fell in with them. She started changing, she dropped all of her old friends. Her and Bruce are kind of a dating-but-not-really thing."
"Hmm, I see. So it's like she was a weak person, got in with a different crowd, so she's going full force in the opposite direction trying to convince everyone and herself she's no longer what she was." Blackwell says, quite astutely to your surprise.
"It's kind of an attention whore thing too." you add, "Her mom remarried last year. Her step-father..." you think, "He's a good guy. Makes good money. But they don't pay as much attention to her as she'd want."
"So she wants recognition and she wants to be taken seriously." he says in a thoughtful manner. "Would she like to be anyone else?"
"Would she... what?"
Blackwell leans forward, his eyes narrowing, "Exactly what I said, would she, this girl and not you, want to be anyone else?"
You think: since she's so fresh on your mind you think about Jade Johnson but filtered through Traci's mind. They were friends once but now they're not. She's got a nice family, she's got a boyfriend who seems, though you suspect different Traci doesn't, to like her. So why is she so mopey? Her life is fine, she doesn't deserve it. Traci would do better with Jade's life, she thinks.
Or Dinah Ackerman. She's part of your little group but while Traci's got tits, Dinah's got a cute face and an amiable, giggly personality that makes her more popular both in your circle and out of it.
Or the popular girls like Brianna Matthias or Madison Alvarez. Or Ms. DiPietro, the pretty young English teacher who all the boys drool over.
Overcompensation, attention whoring... all of it born from insecurity. So you nod, "Yeah, Traci would take the opportunity in a heartbeat."
"Good," Blackwell nods, "Then she'll be open to learning about the book."
"Uh, come again? She's under a mask. I'm playing her and I know this shit."
"If you're playing the role of this girl, does she know how this stuff works?" asks Blackwell rhetorically. "No, no she doesn't. So you will be getting a reeducation, from the beginning... or rather this girl--"
"Traci. Small." you say with annoyance.
"Yes yes, Traci Small will be learning about this book from the beginning." he states, "And we've got plenty of time to. A year, at least."
That takes you by surprise. A year as Traci Small? "So from a bitch to a witch, huh?" you ask. "Alright, sure, whatever. How are we gonna get me a job here, though? Traci's parents don't pay much attention to her but they would if she said she was riding her bike past some disgusting old man's house when he offered her a job."
"Leave that to me, I have something of an idea." he says. He then heads out of the room for a moment and returns with a pad of paper and a pen. "Write your school schedule down." He notices you eye him and sighs, "Just do it."

You're on your bike, a ways away from Blackwell's residence and heading towards your house when your phone--because what self-respecting teenager these days hasn't finagled a cellphone from their parents--goes off.
"Yeah? What's up?" you ask.
"Traci, hey, where'd you go?" asks Bruce.
"Jade wanted me to wreck that dumb fucking comic shop with her." you say, "She pussied out though. She's such a fucking baby. I've just been riding around bored."
"Well if you want something to do, come out to the woods." he replies and though he doesn't specify which woods, Traci's mind tells you that he means the ones near Farm Road... close to where you are actually.
"I'm actually close to there right now. So what's up?" you ask.
"Jason scored some booze from his parents' liquor cabinet and got into some of his sister's stash." he says referring to Jason Minkowski. His parents have a rather large liquor supply and his older sister, a college student named Lina, does a poor job of hiding her weed.
Traci's mind is practically screaming at you to go but you yourself are not sure. It's been a fairly exhausting day and you're not sure if you yourself want to indulge in her desire to get drunk and high. You'd rather go back to Traci's and take some time getting used to your new home. But still, staying in character is important and Traci would never pass this up. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
