Chapter #4

Patrick's gang retaliate

    by: Blarg Author IconMail Icon
Amy quickly scanned the room, analyzing the reactions- if any- of the customers to the death that had just occurred meters from where they stood. Two customers in line continued talking, seemingly unaware. Ms. Hawthorne flinched slightly at the pop, but continued talking determined not to let the incident be uncovered. The customers she was talking to showed no reaction, most likely distracted by Miss Hawthorne. A woman closest to Amy in line wearing a red sweater turned toward her reflexively at the noise. Amy smiled at her nonchalantly, the woman looked away, either unaware of the nature of the noise or uncaring. Amy sighed in relief, that was a close call. Now she had to think of a way to clean up this mess.

*******

Anthony Stone felt sick to the stomach. He and 15 others were currently hidden behind a decorative plant in the corner of the room, and they had just witnessed Patrick Holder's murder.
"Shit, that's just great." Anthony heard someone mutter to his left. "Useless bastard couldn't even move the food any closer before snuffing it." Anthony didn't need to turn around to know who it was.
"Shut the fuck up, Eric!" Anthony said while turning to face him. Eric had joined the group a few weeks ago and so far nobody was impressed. "At least he had the balls to go out there! It should have been you for drawing the short stick. But you were a coward as usual. You said Patrick should go because he was the leader, well let me tell you something. He was a hell of a lot more useful than your freeloading ass. It would've been a hell of a lot better if you walked out there and got yourself stepped on. If that bitch had killed you instead of Patrick she would've done the world a damn favor. Now for once in your life shut your mouth and let me think!" Anthony felt good finally being able to get that off his chest, nobody defended Eric. After all, he was only saying what everyone was thinking.

Amy couldn't just lean over and clean up the blood. A customer had already heard him die and might be getting suspicious. Ms. Hawthorne saw the predicament she was in and let her pen fall to the floor. Amy mouthed a thank you, then got up to pick it up. Whilst on the floor she discreetly took out a handkerchief (Already stained with the blood of her previous victims) and mopped up the mess on the floor and on her shoe. A faint red color remained on the floor, but it was less noticeable. The cleaners would do a more thorough job when the bank closed for the night. She then put the handkerchief away and grabbed the pen. About 30 seconds had passed since she had killed the tiny man. She looked to the left of where he died and noticed a half-eaten biscuit. "Probably what he was after." She thought with a smile. Amy picked it up so it wouldn't draw any more of them out. She got up and walked over to the bin, gazing back to the plant in the corner, about 10 paces from where she stood. With a group of around 15 mini guys cowering beside it.

The group all watched as the woman who killed Patrick mopped up their friend's remains. They wouldn't have a chance to mourn.
"Now what?" A guy called Chris asked Anthony.
"Enough is enough." He replied. "Now we retaliate"
"Are you crazy? She'll kill us!"
"No, we can win as a group. She wouldn't dare, especially since that woman in the line's already suspicious" He said, pointing to a woman in a red sweater. Patrick's murderer glanced at the half-eaten biscuit, picked it up, and got out of her chair.
"What's she doing?" Chris asked. Anthony glanced at the bin relatively close to them and saw she was walking towards it.
"Oh, shit!" He exclaimed. The woman then dropped the biscuit into the bin and glanced directly at them.

"Oh, this is just great." Amy thought. The desk ended before the plant pot, she couldn't just walk over there and crush them all. She had barely gotten away with killing one, sixteen would be a scandal. She hurried back to her desk, where Ms. Hawthorne was engaging the customers.
"Excuse me, Ms. Hawthorne, could I have a word with you for a moment?". Ms. Hawthorne looked at Amy sternly, giving her a confused "What the hell do you think you're doing?" look.
"It's urgent." Amy added. Miss Hawthorne gave a short, nervous laugh and turned back to the customers.
"Could you excuse us for one moment?" She said apologetically. And got up and walked out of their earshot. Amy followed. "This better be good." She hissed sternly. Amy gazed over to where the group of tiny men stood. Ms. Hawthorne followed her glance. "Shit, this is all I need. Look I've nearly wrapped up this deal, and if anybody finds those things, it's a deal-breaker. Got it?"

"But what can I do?" Amy pleaded. "Someone's bound to see if I kill them-"
"-Keep your voice down!" Ms. Hawthorne interrupted. "Look, they won't dare move from that spot anytime soon, they're scared of us, just stop paying them any attention before someone sees!"
"I don't think it's as simple as that. They knew him" She said, nudging toward the direction of the bloodstain. "And I think they're getting restless!"
"Then find a way to deal with it" Ms. Hawthorne replied "Take them outside, kill them, hell, reason with the bugs if you have to! Just whatever you do, don't let anybody see you, because I swear if you screw this up you're going to have a serious problem on your hands. Are we clear?"
"Crystal" Amy replied almost bitterly. "Great!" She thought. "Now what the hell am I supposed to do?"
