The Valor of a Lion

"I'm staying right here! I was told to protect the house!"
Gary lacked notice that he was on all fours talking to a cat. He didn't care.
"Alright, if you say so, human. But let me first entrust you with something special."
The cat's golden eyes peered straight into his again, and Gary felt a certain heat behind them. That heat spread through him, too, and suddenly Gary found himself wrapped in this burning sensation! All at once it went away, and Gary now found a strange cats-eye necklace dangling from his neck.
"I've given you a special power, Gary. When the moment arises, you will be able to use it as you will. Be careful."
With that, the cat disappeared up the stairs, probably to save Dillon. Gary grinned, and wondered what kind of power the cat had given him... Hold on, the cat? What kind of power could a cat give? He thought he was just dreaming, but holding that cats-eye necklace, which was solid, made him ponder. What was going to happen?
The robbers decided that for him, and showed up! Gary crawled back into a defensive position, and the necklace began to glow...
