Chapter #6

Keeping it in the Family(s)

by: That One Guy Author IconMail Icon
"Thanks for picking me up," you say as you hop into the passenger seat of your cousin’s car. "Here, a reward for your troubles."

“Orange soda, my fave.” She smiles at you amusedly, and then takes the bottle and tucks it into her purse. "So what do you want to do?"

You shrug. "I dunno, how about a movie?"

"Ohhh, that sounds great. I was planning on seeing the new superhero movie, actually.”

"Get out, I heard that one was awful!” As Yumi drives off, the two of you arguing about which movie to see, from Sarah’s eyes you can see Joanna pedals towards your house on her bike.

“Hey Jo!” you say happily as you open the door. Your sister cheerfully returns your greeting as she enters the house. “Can I get you something to drink?”

“Can I have some apple juice?”

“Coming right up!”

You quickly pour a glass of apple juice, and hand it to Joanna. She doesn’t even choke on you as you slide down her throat.

“Very sneaky,” you grin as you let the glass drop from your lips. “So, should I share it with my parents?”

“Sure, if you want. We’ll get you some more of the stuff when Dana gets back home.” you reply, squatting down to scoop up the cat that you’ve sent trotting out from its hiding place. You purr as gentle human hands lift you off the ground.

“I didn’t know you got a cat.”

“Just got it yesterday. She’s a cutie, isn’t she? Should we keep her?”

‘”Sure, one of us should have a pet. Will your parents approve?”

“Probably not at first, but they’ll come around.”

You set the two girls on the couch and turn on the TV: Sarah’s been hearing good things about a show on Netflix and she’s eager to see it. It also gives you a good excuse to put Joanna to sleep and ransack her mind.

Meanwhile you and Yumi have finally settled on seeing a comedy. The next showing doesn’t begin for another hour, however, so you wander around the mall, chattering and trying on all sorts of clothes and accessories. Yumi walks out with the very cute scarf, but you only purchase a few bracelets you really don’t need. The whole process takes 45 minutes, so you spend the rest of the time in the food court, sharing an order of fries.

“So, what’s my favorite crosstown cousin up to these days?” you ask with a wry smile. Then, in your best impression of Dana’s Aunt Kiku, say, “Any cute boys in your life?”

“Ugh, not even,” she grimaces. “Most of them are total jerks.”

“Not to blame the victim or anything, but doesn’t that sort of come with the territory of being a cheerleader?” Yumi sighs, taking a swig of her drink.

“I dunno, I’d just like to hook up with a guy who’s cute and not a total tool, you know?”

Dana does, in fact, know, but you don’t say anything as Yumi’s face suddenly goes slack and her eyes lose focus. She sways, but you’re slow to sink into her.

“Well, I think it’s about time we got going,” Dana sighs once the new perspective has cleared up. “Wouldn’t want to miss the previews.” Yumi nods mutely, finishing off her soda and throwing both it and the fries into the trash. Her mind is not open to you yet, but you keep control of her for now. It’s not until the two of you are comfortably seated that you put Yumi’s consciousness to sleep, then sink down inside her.

Hours pass, and eventually you migrate Sarah and Joanna from the living room to the bedroom to do their homework, and when you feel Mrs. Pak’s mind join yours, you bring her upstairs to work on some of it as well. Once Dana returns home, however, you break it off, and you send Joanna home with enough of you to infiltrate the rest of your family.

Your parents are fuss and moan over you when you return home, but you simply brush them off like the irreverent teenager you are. You’re quick to spike the orange juice with some of your worms. By dinner you’re in both your family and Dana’s, with Yumi as the outlier. As eight people you eat dinner in dead silence, while as the ninth you argue with your big brother Mokichi over rations. It’s not until you put them all to sleep, however, that you feel fully in control of them.

=====

As it turns out, your parents had been visited by a man named Colonel Lord from the military base. He came with news that their son *might* (and he stressed that word) have been trespassing and possibly been involved in a major accident on the base. He claimed that they had evidence of your presence –though demurred from disclosing said evidence- and after the explosion there was no trace of your body. Therefore, the military wasn’t sure if you’d been obliterated in the blast, or that you had somehow survived and were currently missing. He ended the meeting by asking them to get in touch should you turn up.

Well, that certainly isn’t happening.

However, that leaves you with two options: On one hand you could keep to your plans to stay inside the school, and possibly spread out there; on the other hand, you could contact Lord, take him over, and see just how much the military knows.

You have the following choices:

1. Stay in School

*Pen*
2. Break into the Base

*Pen* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
