The next morning, you spot Chris near the commons area, hanging off to the side... with Adam Karter. You moan. You had been hoping to avoid having to deal with him as the guy's just about the skeeviest person you can think of. Still, if you want to talk to Chris, it looks like you're going to have to put up with him, too. Steeling yourself, you head over in their direction.
"Well well, Ms. Perfect as decided to deign us with her presence." Adam says.
You just give him a look that tells him you're not in the mood. "Can it, Karter." you say frostily, "Because I need to talk to Chris and I REALLY don't need to put up with your shit right now."
"Or what?" he grins, "You'll bring down righteous fury upon us mere mortals?"
"Karter!" Chris' voice cuts through quite sharply. "Chamberlain came to talk to me so this is now between me and her. I'll talk to you later, alright?" Her words are calm but you can sense an irritance in them. Adam, for his part, gives another one of his serpent-esque grins before excusing himself.
"I really don't get why you hang around with him." you state.
"He's alright when he's not putting up that dumb act." Chris replies. "He's right, though. You're not really the kind of person that usually talks to us."
"Well, yeah, but I'm kind of having some problems and I just..." you pause, "I thought you were the best person to come to."
"Look, if it's about Reynolds, forget it." Chris states bluntly. "I've had to deal with him already. AND Darcy for another reason. I'm kinda tapped on love therapist advice right now."
"It's... no. It's not about Jordan." you say, "At least not totally." You pause, taking as deep a breath as you can, then start. "For a while I've just been feeling... weird. Strange. I broke up with Jordan because there was no passion there. I loved him but it was more of, like, as a friend than as a romantic partner, you know? And just... yesterday in the gym I felt odd. And then I was over at Kristy's and when I saw her getting out of the pool I just..." you stop, realizing you're blushing a little.
Chris, for her part, isn't stupid. She eyes you intently, then you see a bit of a smirk break out on her face. "Heh. For real." she says, "Seriously? This is rich."
"I didn't come her to get mocked." you state.
"I know, I know." she backs up verbally, "It's just... I'm kinda surprised, that's all." She sighs, giving you another, more bemused look this time, "Look, meet my over behind the portables at lunch. We'll be able to talk more there, alright?"
Just as she says this, the bell rings surprising you. You HAD gotten to school later than you planned, though. You agree to meet her at lunch and the two of you part. As the day goes through, another thought begins to enter your head. You came to Chris looking for advice about how to deal with Hannah's situation. But she seems trustworthy, she seems cool... you felt at ease around her so maybe, just maybe, you can tell her about YOUR situation. It seems dangerous, stupid, reckless... but you have the urge to confide in SOMEBODY. So if you have to, then why not Chris Yves?
