Dave internally panicked, but an idea immediately came to mind. “Why do you want that? It’s just a toy wand. Didn’t you come to borrow a video game?”
“Yeah, I did.” Tim answered.
“Then leave me the wand and you can pick any game you want.”
“Or I could take the wand and still pick any game I want anyway.” Tim smirked. “Not like you can stop me.”
“Maybe not. But why do you want the wand anyway?”
“I dunno. You seemed to like it, so I want it.”
“Actually, I don’t like it. I was going to give it to someone.” Dave lied.
“You don’t?” Tim looked at the wand. “Fine. Take it back.” Tim tossed the wand back to Dave, who caught it easily.
Dave suppressed a smirk, forcing a frown instead. He knew the only reason Tim wanted it was because Dave wanted it, so he had to make him think he didn’t have it because he wanted it and instead planned to get rid of it. He was glad he was able to trick Tim, and was glad Tim hadn’t used it in the short time he had it. “Really? And here I was hoping you were going to take it off my hands.”
“Whatever.” Tim grabbed a video game from Dave’s collection. “I’d rather play a game than take your toy anyway.”
Dave then used Tim’s distraction with the video game to shoot his younger brother with the wand again.
